The Hudson boys volleyball team improved to 2-5 on the season after posting a 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary April 12 in Akron.
Setter Kyle Michl had 10 assists and three digs and right-side hitter Kolby Miller contributed four kills, two blocks and two assists for Hudson.
Outside hitter Matt Gentry was a force at the net with seven kills. He also had three aces. Senior setter Larry Meehan, the head coach's son, was his usual productive self with nine assists, five digs, four kills and two blocks.
Also contributing for Hudson were middle blocker Shane Chilcott (four kills, four blocks and two aces) and senior middle blocker Mitch Gray (three kills and three blocks).
"Our service game was very productive and when that happens, the game gets a bit easier," Hudson head coach Larry Meehan said.
Host Hudson lost to Brunswick 23-25, 25-10, 25-17, 25-17 April 11 at Ray "Buck" Hyser Gymnasium,
Meehan had 10 assists, 10 digs, four blocks, two kills and two aces and Gentry had eight kills and two blocks.
Others who contributed for Hudson were defensive specialist Kellen McCabe (seven digs and a 2.6 passer rating) and libero Thomas Morgan (six digs and a 2.4 passer rating).
"Although I was happy that we played well in the first set, inconsistencies in the serve and getting transition kills dogged us all night," Meehan said. "Brunswick has better, more experienced volleyball players at this moment, but at some point this season, I am hopeful we can translate our athleticism into more points.
"The positive was that we played well on defense, actually digging a great many balls up, but we failed to convert those chances into points. Still, it was a step forward for the defensive effort."
Hudson was scheduled to entertain Medina April 13. Results were not available at press time.
Hudson is set to visit Stow-Munroe Falls April 18 before returning home to play Cleveland St. Ignatius April 19. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
