It wasn't that long ago when the Hudson and Solon boys lacrosse teams were two of the best teams in the state.
While the Explorers can still make that argument, the days of the Comets being a state power are over — for now.
Hudson improved to 5-0 on the season after posting a lopsided 17-2 victory over Solon April 5 at Solon High School's Stewart Field.
The Comets, who used to give the Explorers all kinds of problems, dropped to 0-6.
Hudson scored eight goals in the first 10-plus minutes and didn't look back the rest of the way.
The Explorers moved the ball extremely well, were deadly accurate with their shooting and they played very intense defense to overwhelm Solon.
Hudson, which has struggled with face-offs throughout the season, won 14-of-30 April 4.
Max Cole continued his stellar season with four goals and five assists to lead the Explorers.
Anthony Rightnour finished with three goals and one assist and Patrick Burdett scored all three of his goals in the first quarter.
Chandler Kotseos also had a stellar game with a goal, three assists and a team-high six ground balls. Cole Miller contributed two goals and one assist and Angelo Donatelli scored twice.
Also scoring one goal apiece for the Explorers were Merrick Widdoes, who also had an assist and Brady Ludewig.
Will Orazen added an assist for Hudson, which outshot the Comets 33-23 and had a 41-20 advantage in ground balls. Danny Saxon had five of those ground balls.

The Explorers committed 14 turnovers compared to 16 for the Comets.
