TALLMADGE -- The most important part of the season was coming up, but the Tallmadge boys basketball team appears to be peaking at the right time.
The host Blue Devils won their fourth game in five tries after posting a lopsided 76-43 victory over Suburban League American Conference rival Aurora Feb. 24 at James O. Maddox Court.
With the win, Tallmadge improved to 12-8 and finished in second place in the American Conference. The Blue Devils compiled a 9-3 record in the American Conference.
Prior to the game, Tallmadge honored seniors Julius Lee, Josh Taylor and Drew Stauffer on senior night.
"I'm really proud of the commitment that they [Tallmadge seniors] have given back to us as coaches and the commitment they've given to their team and school over the course of four years," Blue Devils head coach Mike Bluey said. "You can't think of a better way to go out on your last home game."
A total of 10 players scored at least two points as Tallmadge raced out to a 41-19 lead at halftime.
The Blue Devils didn't look back the rest of the way.
Junior guard Matthew Francesconi led Tallmadge with a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the first half, and Taylor and junior forward Scott Seeker added 11 and 10 points, for the Blue Devils, who finished with 23 assists.
"Any time that you have all those kids making positive plays and cheering for each other and looking to give their teammate the ball, that just creates a heck of an end to the home season," Bluey said.
Tallmadge made five 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 24-11 advantage. The Blue Devils also had a 37-25 edge on the glass and forced 14 Aurora turnovers.
Gavin Blunt led the Greenmen with 14 points.
The sixth-seeded Blue Devils were scheduled to play second-seeded Buchtel in a Canton Division II sectional semifinal game March 3 in Akron. Results were not available at press time.
