Nordonia wrestling sends three on to districts

The Nordonia wrestling team opened its postseason run Feb. 25 at the Division I sectional tournament at Brecksville-Broadview Heights. The Knights finished ninth in the 12-team field with 65.5 points. St. Ignatius won the team title with 276.5 points.

Nordonia was able to advance three wrestlers to the district tournament at North Canton Hoover. The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to districts.

Senior 195-pounder Anthony Perrine was Nordonia's lone champion at sectionals. Perrine defeated St. Ignatius' Michael Drobnick 6-1 in the 195-pound title match.

Fellow senior Tommy Masteller reached districts by taking third place at 132 pounds. Masteller pinned Ignatius' Zach Morgan in 39 seconds in the third-place match. Nordonia also had 120-pounder Jimmy Brenneman qualify by taking fourth place.

The Division I district tournament at Hoover will begin March 3 at 5 p.m. The top four finishers in each weight class qualify for districts.
