WRA hockey goes 1-1

The Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team settled for a split with Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills.

The Pioneers earned a 5-4 victory Feb. 12 after losing 4-3 Feb. 10.

On Feb. 12, Danny LaFontaine scored the winning goal on a power play with 6 seconds left.

Brett Erskine and Zach Mandry scored two goals apiece for Reserve and goaltender Nate Hopkins stopped 39 shots.

On Feb. 10, Leo Holland, Mandry and Erskine scored for WRA (7-16). The Lancers scored the game-winning goal with approximately two minutes left.

Reserve goaltender Noah Goad made 34 saves.

WRA is scheduled to play a pair of games with Shady Side (Pa.) Academy this week.

The Pioneers are set o play Feb. 18 (8:40 p.m.) at Center Ice in Canton and then head to the Ice Zone to play Feb. 19 (11:30 a.m.) in Youngstown.
