Experience is the name of the game for the Nordonia High School ice hockey team.

What the Knights didn't have in the way of experience at the beginning of the season, they're attempting to gain in their ongoing quest to qualify for the Baron Cup. Despite the fact that Nordonia lost two games recently, the Knights continued to gain valuable experience.F

From Jan. 14 to Jan. 16, Nordonia competed in the Parma Martin Luther King Tournament. The Knights' first opponent was North Canton Hoover on Saturday, Jan. 14. Nordonia fell to the Vikings by the score of 7-2.

Seniors Josh Czerr and Luke Friss scored the goals for Nordonia. Notching assists were junior Connor Banks, senior Harbir Multani, freshman Michael Savol, and freshman Nate Juchnik. Junior Anthony Cinalli racked up 41 saves in goal.

On Jan. 15, Nordonia battled Brooklyn in its second match of the tournament. Unfortunately, the Knights were not able to find the back of the net.

Brooklyn shut out Nordonia by the score of 5-0. This time, Cinalli had 34 saves in a losing cause.

Nordonia's final opponent in the MLK Tournament was Archbishop Alter. The Knights and Alter were scheduled to clash on Monday, Jan. 16.

According to Nordonia head coach Rich Cinalli, his team learned much during the two matches. Although the Knight lost both times, many of the younger players were in action. According to coach Cinalli, this is an investment in the future.

"I've been running through all of my lines to get younger players experience, which will help us in our push toward the Baron Cup," he said.

Nordonia's record in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Blue South Division is 4-3. That means the Knights still have a chance to qualify for the Baron Cup.

On Jan. 20, Nordonia is scheduled to host nonleague opponent Aurora. The next day, the Knights will jump back into division play against Garfield Heights on the road.

Nordonia's Annual Wing Ding Fundraiser is slated Feb. 25, at Scoreboards from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost of the fundraiser is $25. Those who are interested should contact Rosemarie Cinalli at 330-388-3294.
