With the postseason tournaments approaching, the Nordonia High School boys golf team is hoping to generate some momentum before they arrive.
The Knights were in action recently, starting with a match against Suburban League National Conference opponent Cuyahoga Falls Sept. 8. The Black Tigers topped the Knights by the score of 158-164.
Chris Armao led the way for Nordonia with a round of 39. According to Nordonia head coach Scott Lawrence, the Knights did not play poorly against Falls.
"The team played well," said Lawrence, "but we just ran into a hot team who did a good job at home."
On Sept. 9 and 10, Nordonia competed in Kent Roosevelt's Pfeiffer Invitational. The Knights' two-day total of 688 was good enough for seventh place in a field of 10 teams.
Drake Tobias paced the Knights with an 81 and an 82 for a two-day total of 163. He missed being named to the all-tournament team by one stroke.
On Sept. 15, Nordonia battled conference foe North Royalton at Ellsworth Golf Course. The Knights fell to defeat by the score of 163-172.
Tobias and Jake Vetrovsky paced Nordonia, as each shot a round of 41.
Nordonia finishes its regular season schedule this week. The Knights was set to host Twinsburg Sept. 20, but results were not available at press time. The Knights travel to Wadsworth Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
