Continuing to play sound defense, the Twinsburg girls soccer team has been competitive against a strong schedule.
First-year head coach John Garber saw his troops win 5-0 at Tiger Stadium in a non-league win over Eastlake North Sept. 10.
The Tigers (3-1-2) got the shutout from junior goalkeeper Ally Zenda, but Twinsburg got scoring from plenty of athletes.
Senior striker Anna Cleveland, junior striker Lexi Hill, junior striker Alyssa Troyer, sophomore striker-midfielder Alyssa Kleinman, and freshman striker-midfielder Alli King all scored goals for the Tigers.
Collecting assists for the Lady Tigers were Cleveland, junior midfielder Quinn Springer, and Kleinman.
"We scored some quality goals," said the coach.
Sophomore goalkeepers Hannah Zochowski and Cassidy Smith both made appearances in the second half during the Eastlake North match.
"Hannah and Cassidy both contributed to the shutout," said Garber.
Twinsburg fought to a 2-2 tie Sept. 7 in a league game against visiting Brecksville-Broadview Heights.
The active Kleinman scored the tying goal with 11:00 left in the game.
"Our coaching staff was pleased with this result considering Brecksville was ranked eighth in the latest OSSCA Division I State Poll and No. 3 in the GCSSCA Poll," noted Garber.
Getting the other tally for the Tigers was King. Hill and Troyer were credited with assists.
Cleveland scored all of Twinsburg's goals in the Sept. 3 2-0 win vs. Cleveland Heights at Denison Park.
Assisting Cleveland on both goals was Troyer.
Twinsburg will play a league game Sept. 14 at Stow-Munroe Falls, hosts Perrysburg in a non-league test Sept. 17, and plays a league game at Wadsworth Sept. 21.
Perrysburg is ranked sixth in Ohio.
"Our girls have a tough schedule and are eager to compete against the top teams in the region and in the state," offered Garber.
Other returning seniors besides Cleveland include striker Erin Ahern, defender Kali Benedict, striker-midfielder Maria Kormanec, defender Hannah Patrzyk, and defender Abby Zona.
"I also thought our JV team had a successful week," said Garber as the JV Tigers beat Brecksville 2-0 and defeated Eastlake North 9-0.
