Boys soccer now 3-0
Aurora High's varsity boys soccer team improved to 3-0 with a 5-0 victory over Perry on Sept. 1. Goals were scored by Josh Famageltto, Kyle Stokar, Dan French and Mike French (two).
Earlier in the week, the locals topped Kent Roosevelt 3-0 in a Suburban League matchup. Goals were scored by Mike French, Bryce Posner and Famageltto.
The Greenmen travel to Mayfield on Sept. 8 and host Medina Highland on Sept. 13.
Sierak first in tourney
Barrington Golf Club pro Mark Sierak tied for first place in last week's Stroke Play Series 8 tournament at Barrington. He shot 3-under-par 69 in the regular division and pocketed $1,050.
Barrington assistant pro Katie Jenior tied for 15th with a 75, but finished just out of the prize money, while Club Walden's Mitch Camp placed 22nd with a 77. In the seniors division, Camp was seventh.
Six run in the Fox Trot
In the Fox 8 Fox Trot distance race Aug. 28 in Cleveland, Daniel Blechschmid of Aurora placed first in men 45-49 in 19:40, while Richard Malik was 14th in the same category in 27:37.6.
Other local results were: Lynne Shibko, sixth (30:11.5); Heidi Sirocky, seventh (30:15.7); and Nancy Smith, 41st (43:59.2) in women 50-54; and Mark Muroski, 15th (35:40.1) in men 60-64.
Schroeder with B-W
The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team and third-year head coach Wayne Schneider are set to compete for an Ohio Athletic Conference title in 2016-17.
Schneider returns seven letterwinners and three of his top five golfers who finished fifth at the OAC Championships in 2015.
Seniors Scott Schroeder (Aurora), Matt Kershner (Independence) and Weston Lucas (Strongsville / Christian Community School) are the top three returners from last year's squad. Schroeder led the team in 2015 with an average of 75.70 per round, Kershner was at 78.25 and Lucas finished the year with a 79.95.
