The Nordonia volleyball team won its Suburban League National Conference debut in thrilling fashion.

The host Lady Knights earned an 18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11 victory over Hudson Aug. 30 in Macedonia.

With the win, the Lady Knights improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the National Conference. The Lady Explorers dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

With the score tied at eight in the decisive fifth set, Nordonia, thanks mainly to the stellar serving of freshman outside hitter Maddy Knight, scored the next five points.

Knight served four straight service points during the run.

Hudson scored the next two points, but Nordonia prevailed on a Lady Explorer hitting error on match point.

Sophomore outside hitter Megan Alders led the Lady Knights with 24 kills, 14 digs and an ace and junior setter Faith Banks had 39 assists, eight digs, two aces and two blocks for Nordonia.

Senior libero Alexis Perney contributed 27 digs and two aces and Knight finished with 14 service points, including four aces, and six kills.

Senior middle hitter Alena Madar led the Hudson with eight kills and seven blocks and sophomore libero Kendall Mackay finished with 16 digs for the Lady Explorers. Junior Lorenza Chiarappa had 25 assists for Hudson.
