Macedonia Family Recreation Center

Those looking to enhance their physical fitness have a 55,000-square-foot facility to help them keep on target.

The rec center offers a swimming pool, weights, cardio machines and numerous health and fitness classes for all ages.

The recreation center is a part of the national Silver Sneakers program, a movement to encourage senior citizens to become more active, said John A. Doyle, aquatics coordinator. "If you are a senior, if you qualify based on your age, there are insurance companies that will cover the classes," Doyle said. "Insurance will cover your membership." Doyle said the facility offers numerous Silver Sneakers classes, from aquatics to yoga and Zumba. "Anything that is encompassed by Silver Sneakers is held in this facility," Doyle said.

The recreation center also hosts fitness classes, including yoga, zumba, cycling, kickboxing, water-based fitness classes and more.

Children and teens can sign up for soccer league play. Basketball or volleyball is offered during the open gyms on Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nordonia High School. The Macedonia Family Recreation Center is at 1494 E. Aurora Road. For details on other fitness, recreation or community activities, call 330-468-8370 or visit macrec.com online.
