One Aurora team claimed a championship in the annual Aurora Baseball League tournament over the weekend, as the local Green squad beat Nordonia 13-5 in the 10U division title contest to avenge an earlier 11-8 loss to the Knights.

The Green also beat Mayfield 13-0, Lyndhurst 14-2 and Kenston 18-6. In the same division, Aurora Black won two games and lost one, but didn't advance to the semifinals.

In the 9U and 13U divisions, Aurora each won three games before the 9U team lost 10-2 to Highland Heights and the 13U team lost 4-3 to the G-Men in the semifinals.

The 9U team beat Brunswick Blaze 13-12, Euclid Panthers 19-6 and Manchester 16-10, while the 13U squad topped the Bandits 13-7, the Spiders 19-7 and West Geauga 9-7.

In the 12U division, Aurora Green beat Westlake 10-9 and Lyndhurst 21-4 before losing to Revere 16-3 and the Prospect Pirates 8-1 in the semifinals.

In the 11U division, Aurora Green beat Highland Heights 9-9, but lost to Super Joe's Sluggers 19-7 and Mayfield 27-1.

In the 8U division, Aurora Green had a tough time, losing to the Ohio Stallions 15-1, Mayfield 13-2 and the Ohio Stallions again 16-4.

ABL families are reminded that the annual picnic will be July 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the southern end of Sunny Lake.

ABL family day at the Akron RubberDucks-Bowie Baysox game is July 6 at 2:05 p.m. at Canal Park in Akron.
