Several coaches OK'd

At its May 19 meeting, the Aurora School Board awarded supplemental contracts to the following assistant coaches:

Football -- Danny Myers, Ken Cardaman and Michael Romito; boys soccer -- Morgen Maxwell, Shashikant Jina and George Kimson; wrestling -- Tim Banc.

Boys basketball and girls soccer -- Sean Black; girls and boys tennis -- Matthew Treblas; cross country -- Shari Dowling-Baechle; Harmon cheerleading -- Diane Kohn.

Schroeder ends year

Aurora High School graduate Scott Schroeder recently completed his freshman season on the Baldwin-Wallace College men's golf team.

He earned medalist honors at the John Carroll University Pat Flowers Fall Invitational, carding a 74 in his first college tournament to win in a three-man playoff. He played in five tournaments this year and averaged 75.06 strokes per 18-hole round.

The business management major helped B-W win the Ohio Athletic Conference championship. The Yellow Jackets were in NCAA Championship play last week.

Three runners in race

In the 4 Miles 4 Water race recently at Edgewater Park in Cleveland, Olivia Pollack was third (43:52.7) and Sammi Digeronimo was fourth (43:54) in the women 15-19 age group. Both are from Aurora. Pam Korenewych of Reminderville was 13th in women 45-49 in 53:18.5.

McMahon is runnerup

John McMahon of Aurora finished as runnerup at the 18-hole Ohio Senior Open last week. The tournament was shortened by rain from its scheduled 36 holes. McMahon shot a 68, 3 strokes behind winner Tony Milam of Cleveland. Aurorans Gary Trivisonno and Mitch Camp each shot 70s.

Locals in NOGA event

Four Aurora seniors competed in the Northern Ohio Golf Association's Stroke Play Championship at Mayfield's Sand Ridge Club. In the Senior Division 1 field, Larry Lahnan placed sixth at 3-over-par 75, Rick Areddy tied for 13th at 79, Jim Harless tied for 28th at 84 and Ed Taber tied for 36th at 86. In Flight 2, Auroran Darrell McNair tied for 25th at 13-over 85.

Hradisky best in 800

Several members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill., in an attempt to qualify or better their marks for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

In the running events, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC middle distance runner Brooke Hradisky of Aurora finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 2:15.21.

Many runs scheduled

Area runners will have plenty of choices for competition on Memorial Day weekend. On May 24 are the May in Bay 5K at Bay High School and the Eagle Run at Avon High School.

On May 25 are the Blossom Time Run in Chagrin Falls, Magnificat Through River 5K in Rocky River and Michael L. Runyan 5K in Geneva. On May 26 is the Earn Your Spots Jaguar 5K at St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland.

Soccer camp at WRA

Western Reserve Academy will host Herb Haller's soccer academy this summer. The full day camp is from June 23-27 for boys and girls ages 7 to 17.

Camp Director and WRA head boys soccer coach Herb Haller has a talented staff of coaches who will help players at all levels improve in the four major components of the game: technical, tactical, psychological and physical.

ABL tryouts coming up

The Aurora Baseball League will have travel and tournament team tryouts as follows: June 8 at Sunny Lake Park, noon to 3 p.m. for 12-14U and 4 to 7 p.m. for 9-11U; July 20 at Sunny Lake Park, 9 a.m. to noon for 12-14 U and 1 to 4 p.m. for 9-11U. Picture day for 2014 is May 24.
