The Hudson boys lacrosse team got back on track after posting a 14-8 victory over Mason April 19 on the road.

With the win, the Explorers improved to 4-3. Mason dropped to 2-3.

Hudson took a 9-3 lead at halftime and never looked back. Mick Mougey and Zach Nye each scored three goals and Bo Lori added two goals and five assists.

Gabe Vehar also scored twice for the Explorers, who lost a 15-14 decision to Solon April 17 at Hudson Memorial Stadium. Grant Elffers, Cam Haggerty, Kyle Ator and Brent Zubal each added one goal for Hudson.

Reid Robinson finished with two assists and Sam Gregory had one assist.

"We showed little ill effects from the loss [April 17]," Explorers head coach Dave Blue said. "We controlled the game the whole way. Chris Motter was fantastic on face-offs and the defense did a great job of minimizing Mason threats.

"Logan Malson, Jake Jesionek, Will Hogan, Trent Maendler and Jared Jesionek combined to hold Mason to 28 shots."

Motter, who shared game-ball honors with Mougey, won 22 of 24 face-offs and goalkeeper Jake Krone finished with 12 saves.

Hudson took 35 shots and had a 49-33 advantage in ground balls.

The loss to the Comets ended a three-game winning streak.

The Explorers had a 6-4 lead at halftime, but Solon (7-0) outscored Hudson 7-4 in the third quarter. The Comets, who scored the winning goal with 3 minutes, 8 seconds left in the game, had a 3-0 advantage early in the game.

Mougey had a career-high five goals for the Explorers.

Lori added two goals and four assists and Haggerty, Vehar and Elffers each had two goals.

Nye finished with one goal and three assists for Hudson.

Erik Lindroth had an assist and Motter won 19 face-offs and scooped up 13 ground balls. Krone made 10 saves between the pipes.

Solon outshot the Explorers 34-32. Hudson, which committed 24 turnovers, had a 41-36 advantage in ground balls.

The Explorers' junior varsity team improved to 4-1 with a lopsided 19-5 win over Solon.

Cole Miller and Sean O'Loughlin each had four goals for Hudson and Nathan Szoch finished with three goals.

The varsity team is scheduled to visit North Canton Hoover April 23 at 8 p.m.

The Explorers are set to return to Hudson Memorial Stadium to play Dublin Coffman April 25 at 8 p.m.
