Various programs — Many recreational and community education programs are offered by the city’s parks-recreation department.
Among them are learn to roller skate, inline roller skating, driver education, youth and adult sports, dancing and fitness, stop smoking seminars, youth camps, dog obedience, gardening and home improvement.
Jim Marzullo offers a self-defense session April 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The sessions are open to Aurora and surrounding residents.
Aurora Seniors meet weekdays in the Walker Building on West Pioneer Trail in front of AHS.
Programs include bingo, computer classes, wellness checks, arthritis exercise, health screenings, card games, breakfast and lunch outings, speakers and theme parties.
Among activities are: Gentle yoga Fridays at 10 a.m., arthritis foundation exercise Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 p.m., bingo Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., knitting Thursdays at 1 p.m., penny poker Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., canasta Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., walking videos Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m., watercolor painting Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. and beginning Tai Chi on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
Tec Tuesdays run through May at Harmon School on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. for those needing help with laptops, digital cameras, tablets, phones and e-readers.
Trips coming up are: April 17 — Thistledown Racino; April 21 — lunch bunch at Lager and Vine in Hudson; April 23 — Lakeview Cemetery tour; April 27 — “Pride & Prejudice” at Kent State University; April 29 — Fellows Riverside Gardens and Butler Museum of American Art in Youngstown; May 2 — Mansfield Ohio for Kingwood Center, the Carousel Works and Oak Hill Cottage; May 8 — “Jersey Boys” at State Theater.
May 12 — IKEA in Pittsburgh; May 15 — lunch bunch to Gears and Cheers; May 21 — Cleveland Indians game; May 28 — Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland; May 30 — Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall; June 4 — Gervasi Vineyard; June 5 — Weathervane Playhouse for “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”; June 10 — Holden Arboretum; June 11 — Warther’s trains and boats and lunch at an Amish home.
The parks-rec department is in the Walker Building on West Pioneer Trail. Hours are weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
