Aurora -- During the first two weeks of 2014, Harmon School's wrestling team went 8-1 in dual meets to raise its record to 18-3.

While a close loss to Crestwood in the Aurora Duals on Jan. 18 put the all-time number of wins record out of reach for this season, the team is still in the running to tie the record of 22 wins, with four dual meets left.

"We keep getting better thanks to the strong leadership of eighth-grade captains Robby Albrecht, Ryan Scantland and Nate Smierciak, and the hard work and dedication of all of our members," said coach Paul Frankmann.

Harmon beat University School 74-13 and Painesville Heritage 86-6, then later Orange 87-0 and Perry 55-36.

Harmon ran a duals tournament Jan. 18, with Crestwood winning and Harmon going 4-1 (only loss to Crestwood) and taking second place. Other teams were Chardon, Mayfield, Willowick and Kent Stanton.

In addition to the captains, some of Harmon's top wrestlers in recent competition were Andrew Petersen, Kurt Nunns, Drew McVay, Javonte Douglas, Justin Lovell, Sam Berryhill, Nate Whitelaw, Michael Sapp, Chase Coady, Dante Leone, Mason Copley, Will McGhee, Colin McNamara, Virgil Glorioso, Montana Nietert, Adon Tell, Nick Pascal, Jimmy Soukdala, Jacob Loudon, Zach Flynn, Max Keilin and Naszir Pittman.

Going 5-0 in the Harmon Duals were Petersen, McVay, McGhee, Scantland and McNamara, while going 4-1 were Trevor Mitch, Glorioso and Nietert. Berryhill

and Soukdala made their debuts in the starting lineup, and each won a match.

With Crestwood leading 45-41, the match was decided at heavyweight, as Harmon's seventh-grade first-year wrestler went into the third period with a scoreless tie, but couldn't turn his larger opponent.

Today (Jan. 22), Harmon will send a B team to compete at Solon with Hudson and Streetsboro, will host West Geauga, Cuyahoga Heights and South Euclid Memorial on Jan. 23 and will compete in the Cable 9 Triangular on Jan. 25 with Twinsburg and Nordonia.
