Hudson senior linebacker Ben Gedeon is expected to play for the 2013 U.S. Under-19 national team in the fourth annual International Bowl Feb. 5 in Austin, Texas.

Gedeon, who is orally committed to Michigan, is one of six linebackers to be named today by USA Football.

The team is scheduled to compete at 8 p.m. (central time) Feb. 5, the night before National Signing Day, in the fourth annual International Bowl in Austin, Texas.

At Hudson, Gedeon made 126 tackles, including 11 for a loss and five sacks, as a senior. He also recovered five fumbles and had an interception.

Meanwhie, the Hudson girls basketball team received the second seed at the Ellet Division I sectional-district tournament.

The Lady Explorers are scheduled to play Warren Howland in a sectional semifinal contest Feb. 20 at 7:45 p.m.

Twinsburg, the defending two-time state champion, got the top seed and Austintown Fitch and Stow-Munroe Falls received the third and fourth seeds, respectively.


The Hudson girls bowling team improved to 4-11 with a 1,546-1,475 victory over Brush Feb. 4 at Freeway Lanes in Wickliffe.

The boys (3-13) lost a 2,432-2,250 decision.

Autumn Stanonik led the Lady Explorers with scores of 140 and 122, respectively, and teammate Angela Piazza wasnt far behind with scores of 141 and 116.

Also bowling for Hudson were Geneva Liljestrand (131-110), Ashley Gardea (115-90), Celine Bedrosian (113) and Elaina Arsham (106).

Mike Rybak led the boys with scores of 201 and 227. Philip Rust was next with scores of 186 and 218. Also competing for the Explorers were Donny Campbell (179-216), Hunter McCollough (151), C.J. Colesi (146) and Taylor Turrin (137).

The junior varsity boys settled for a draw. Both teams finished with a score of 1,837. Derek Moran led Hudson with scores of 187 and 167.
