Defense is always a focus for Twinsburg boys' basketball coach Bob Pacsi and he was happy to see effective offense as well when his Tigers won 79-51 over Strongsville in a non-league road trip.

Plenty of that stout defense also spilled into the offensive end as the Tigers exploded for over 20 points in each quarter after a tight 13-12 opening period.

Twinsburg lit up the scoreboard for 66 points after that point to move to 2-0 overall, prior to the Dec. 11 tilt against North Royalton (results were not available at press time).

"Everything starts on the defensive end for us," said Pacsi. "That's one thing that hasn't changed from this team is that our defense and our quickness on defense. A lot of times, our defense leads to offense."

After playing three games in five days, Strongsville dipped to 0-3.

As most Pacsi teams do, this Tiger unit had great balance at Strongsville.

Senior forward A.J. Edwards led with 18 points while junior forward Sean Marable netted 15 points, junior forward Marcus Wallace scored 11, and senior guard Cooper Rea also had 11.

Having a strong floor game was senior guard Jalen Washington, a two-way guard in his third year with Edwards and Marable. He popped in nine points.

Anthony Ellis, a senior wing, also added six points while freshman Shane Farmer netted five, and junior wing Tay Johnson scored four points.

Rea, Washington and Farmer each canned 3-point buckets for the Tigers, who also got out in transition against Strongsville.

The Tigers did well to score against a big Mustang front line of 6-foot-7, 265-pound Brandon Bailey, 6-4 Paul Warren, and promising sophomore forward Alex Barnes (seven points).

Point guard Kyle Meehan has been the Mustang's top scorer and he continued with 12 points against Twinsburg.

Twinsburg opens Northeast Ohio Conference River Division action Dec. 14 at home against arch rival Solon. The Tigers play at defending champion Lyndhurst Brush on Dec. 18.

"We just need to take one game at a time," said Pacsi, who scrimmaged Strongsville in the pre-season.
