It had been a long time, but now it’s official.
The Hudson boys bowling team is finally back in the win column.
The Explorers earned a 2,237-2,077 victory over Northeast Ohio Conference rival Twinsburg in their season debut Nov. 19 at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood Village.
Donny Campbell led the way with games of 234 and 168, respectively. Philip Rust was next with scores of 188 and 192 and Taylor Turrin bowled games of 165 and 204.
Also bowling for Hudson was Mike Rybak (202-137).
The Explorers prevailed without Nich Brumbaugh, the team’s top bowler from last season. Brumbaugh suffered an injury during the first game.
“It was our first conference win since beating Stow to start the year two years ago,” Hudson head coach John Brockway said. “Nich was pulled midway through the first game due to some pain in his elbow and we still pulled out the victory.
“Everyone bowled well and beat what I expect them to average for the year. All in all, it was a wonderful start and I hope it gives our guys some confidence going forward.
“Of course, my optimism is tempered as I know our scores [Nov. 19] won’t compete with the powerhouses of the conference, but at least we should be more competitive this year and have a chance to beat at least a couple of the teams.”
The girls lost a 2,059-1,281 decision to Twinsburg. Angela Piazza led the Lady Explorers with games of 147 and 149, respectively.
The junior varsity boys team cruised to a 1,849-874 win. Bobby Shanks led Hudson with scores of 221 and 147.
All three teams are scheduled to host NOC foe Brush Nov. 26 at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment. Bowling is set to begin at 4 p.m.
