by Brent HoveyReporterAurora -- After Aurora's heartbreaking 5-4 loss in nine innings to Holy Name in the Division II district finals, the Greenmen still had one more regular season conference game to play. The result was much like that of the Holy Name game -- a one-run lost. This time it was 3-2 to West Geauga to conclude the season. It was game where Aurora, which finished the season with a 14-8 overall mark, couldn't catch a break."We hit the ball with authority, but just hit it to their defense," said coach George Snider. "We had a lot of hard-hit ground balls and line drives that could have been hits."Aurora fell behind 1-0 in the second, but tied it up in the fourth. Mike McGilbra and Colin Sanford singled and Beau Calcei walked to load the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Adam Bellamy scored one. The inning ended with a strikeout and throw-out double play.West G. added two in its half of the fourth, which proved to be the winning run.The Greenmen's second run came in the sixth when Sanford walked, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on Calcei's single."It was a good effort; we got good pitching like we have all year," said Snider. "[Josh] Adkins gave up only 4 fluke hits, but they hurt us. We just didn't get a break."Alumni game plannedSnider would like to arrange an alumni baseball game. Anyone who is interested in playing should call him at school at 330-562-3501 ext. 3636 or at home at 330-562-2655.He'd like to play the game as soon as possible, but it will depend on how many and how soon former players want to play. He said he hopes the game will be at the newly configured Ballfield 5 behind Fire Station 1.E-mail: bhovey@recordpub.comPhone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3115
