The top four performers in each event and top four relay teams advance to regional competition."Lauren Noe was pretty excited about making it in the shot put," said Falls head coach Dan Scourfield. "I think she was a little disappointed in the discus. I think she can make it to states in both events. Her throwing coach told me, if she does what we taught her to do, she can get out in both."Also qualifying was Chrissy Zimmermann, who took fourth in the 800 (2:20.22)."Chrissy has a great chance to make it to states," Scourfield said. "There's only two girls that are head and shoulders above the rest and one other girl and about eight girls who are very close to each other. Chrissy has run the 800 just three times. She dropped six seconds off her best time."Ariel Akel tied for fourth in the high jump (5-2). She lost on a jump-off and did not qualify."They actually sent the girl ahead of Ariel home because they thought she finished second," Scourfield said. "She was on the turnpike when they called her back."100 hurdles: Erin Childers, seventh, 16.911,600: Lindsay Marion, eighth, 5:27.13300 hurdles: Childers, eighth, 57.96High jump: Ariel Akel, tied for fourth (lost on jump-off), 5-2Childers had an unfortunate occurrence in the 300 hurdles. She entered the event as the third seed."Erin was in great shape when she tripped on the last hurdle," Scourfield said. "She was running fifth at the time. The fourth-place girl looked like she was fading and Erin was running really strong. She had an outstanding season."Marion hadn't raced before until this season."Lindsay is brand new to running, period," Scourfield said. "She is much more confident and stronger now that she has had a full year. We're very excited about the futures of Lindsay and Ariel."Noe and Zimmermann were going to have their hands full at the regional meet."Fitch is basically the state meet," Scourfield said. "If you get out of the regional, you should be on the podium at states."E-mail: faceto@recordpub.comPhone: 330-686-3914
