by Steve BatkoCorrespondentDespite some modest team placements in the May 16 and May 18 Ravenna Division I district meet, the Stow-Munroe Falls High track and field teams advanced several individual athletes to regionals.In all, eight different Bulldog athletes reached the Division I Austintown Fitch regional Meet, which took place May 23 and 25 (results of regionals weren't available as of press time). The top four finishers at Fitch will qualify for the June 1-2 state championships in Columbus.At Ravenna, Stow's boys squad placed eighth out of 16 teams and the Lady Bulldogs were ninth out of 16 clubs.Aaron Morris' girls squad was paced by regionals qualifiers Abby Koch and Kaleigh Jones.Jones, a senior, placed third overall in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.19 seconds.Koch is just a sophomore and finished as a district runner-up in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 11:08.91.For Mike Drozin's boys squad, senior Steve Thompson was a regional qualifier in two events -- the 100-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles.Thompson placed third in the 100 with a time of 11.41 and was third in the 300 hurdles at 41.12 seconds. He was also fifth in the 200 (23.11).The boys 3,200 relay team also made the regional cut with a time of 8:17.41 for third-place at Ravenna. This cast included senior Trevor Yoak, sophomore Kyle Quinn, senior Steve Arnold and senior Kyle Herman.Senior Kyle Downing also qualified for regionals by finishing fourth overall at the Ravenna district in the pole vault. Downing set a persona- best record at Ravenna with an effort of 12-feet-6."Kyle set his personal best, and hopes to improve on that at regionals," said Drozin, prior to the regional meet. "Steve Thompson is battling through some aches and pains now, but keeps improving in the 300 hurdles. The 3200 relay has great experience."Other top district finishers for the girls were senior Justine Garner and junior Laura Page, who were both fourth in the pole vault. They cleared 8 feet.The Lady Bulldogs' 1,600 relay was sixth (4:09.10) with junior Renee Oneacre, sophomore Megan Johnson, Jones, and senior Alyssa Wagers while the 3200 relay was sixth as well (9:50.67) with freshman Jessica DuHamel, senior Caity Bromley, Oneacre, and Koch.Bromley also ran seventh in the 800 while sophomore Bekah Alexander as seventh in the high jump, and DuHamel, ran seventh in the 1,600.For the boys, Herman ran sixth in the open 800 (1:59.97), while Yoak was seventh in the 1600. Senior James Scott placed eighth in the discus and senior Kevin Archer, eighth in the pole vault.
