The stance of Hudson attorney Carlos Warner, who wishes to close Guantanamo, is riddled with inaccuracies, misrepresentations and emotion-based pleas for sympathy. Of essential importance are two facts the attorney does not understand.

First, as citizens of foreign countries, these enemy combatants are not subject to constitutional protections afforded US citizens, notwithstanding certain court rulings to the contrary. Just as important, these terrorists, by not abiding by key provisions of the Geneva Convention regarding warfare such as fighting in uniform, and by violating every tenet of international law regarding treatment of prisoners, forfeit entitlement to any protection under the Geneva Convention. Mr. Warner's final statement that "much of the public does not yet understand who is in Guantanamo" is offensive, self-serving and baseless.
