Members of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services remind the state's women veterans that time is running short to register for a unique opportunity to network with other women veterans while gaining valuable information, according to Karen Kish, ODVS spokeswoman.
Registration deadline for the Ohio Women Veterans Conference is Sept. 16.
The biennial conference will be Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aladdin Shrine Center, 3013 Steltzer Road, in Columbus. The cost is $10, and includes a luncheon meal. Due to the anticipated large attendance, advance registration is advisable. Register at http://dvs.ohio.gov/home/committees/women_veterans_advisory_committee/ohio_womenveterans_conference.aspx.
The theme of the conference is "Inspirational, Informative, Intrigued?"
The keynote speaker will be Jessica Lynch, who was severely injured in the ambush of her unit early in the Iraq War in 2003 and was rescued by Special Operations forces from an Iraqi hospital. Ohio's Adjutant General, Major General Deborah Ashenhurst, will also address the conference. In addition, an expert panel will discuss issues surrounding benefits for women veterans.
The Ohio Department of Veterans Services maintains an active Advisory Committee on Women Veterans, which hosts the conference in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System of Ohio. The event provides a vital forum to network with veterans of today's conflicts and all eras dating back to World War II. It also provides women veterans the opportunity to not only learn more about these challenges, but also the resources and strategies available to overcome them.
The last conference in 2011 drew more than 500 women veterans, so advance registration is available. For more information, contact Karen Kish at 614-752-8941, or Karen.email@example.com, or Mike McKinney at 614-728-0235 and Michael.firstname.lastname@example.org.
