Because of the kindness and generosity of the people of Portage County, the 2012 Be a Santa to a Senior program was an overwhelming success.

I want to thank the executive committee who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the program, Aurora Farms Premium Outlets, Aurora Senior Center, Dr. Jim Tomko's office and the Aurora Mennonite Church, as well as other locations throughout the county that allowed us to put up trees and collected gifts.

I also want to thank Mrs. Yoder's class at Valley Christian Academy in Aurora for making such beautiful holiday cards for the seniors and to everyone who purchased, wrapped or helped deliver gifts. Thanks also to the Aurora Advocate and Record-Courier for media coverage that helped create awareness of the program.

This was truly a community effort that brought joy to the lives of more than 300 seniors in our county this holiday season.
