THUMBS UP ... to Cuyahoga Falls business person of the year Danny Karam and citizen of the year Liz Cross. The two were honored by the Chamber of Commerce May 23 for their dedication to the community.

Karam founded Karam Companies in 1989 and has since developed residential communities in the city such as Cedarwood Village, Hidden Hills, Portage View West and others, choosing to keep his corporate headquarters in his hometown of Cuyahoga Falls.

Cross joined the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society in 1986 and has served as committee head, board member and museum curator through three moves and many changes at the society.

We join the Chamber in congratulating these two outstanding community leaders for their much-deserved awards.

THUMBS UP ... To those who take the time to organize or attend Memorial Day parades and other events that honor veterans.

Too often, people view holidays like Memorial Day as merely a day off from work. However, we should also remember the reason for the holiday in the first place -- to honor those who served in the military, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving up their lives.
