Joyce M. Hervey 82 passed away in Victorville, California, after a long courageous battle with Kidney disease on February 2nd, 2017.

Ms. Hervey spent her formative years in Jefferson, Ohio. She maintained a deep attachment for Jefferson, Ohio which stems from her deep roots there, as her family came to Jefferson in the 1840's. In the time Joyce spent in Jefferson she developed many deep relationships, some of which were held until her passing. As a young woman she moved to Stow, Ohio from which she attended Kent State and earned her teaching degree, after which she moved to her beloved California, where she spent the last 50 years. Her love for California was whole hearted, as she many times hosted family and friends on sight seeing visits, the last of which was 2011 by her brother David and nephew Aaron. She enjoyed travel with her long time companion and care giver Linda Ercius, as well as movies, football genealogy/family history, and discussing politics. The discussion of these interests in twice weekly extended phone calls and Skype sessions will be greatly missed by her brother David. She often discussed returning to northeastern Ohio, but in the end her life was in California.

Miss Hervey's career as a teacher evolved over the years from primary school teacher to special education, to Home School Coordinator, as well as Mentor Teacher in several high desert communities of San Bernardino County. While she was able, she enjoyed attending retired teachers luncheons to talk shop and new teaching approaches. She also often spoke fondly of her dialysis clinic friends, nurses and technicians.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving parents David and Ruth, who came to live near her in Victorville for a time, and her brother Timothy, of Stow. She will be greatly missed by David, Carol, Aaron and family, cousin Carol, Linda; and many students, friends and colleagues whose life she touched, in both Ohio and California. There will be no services at this time. Joyce will be interred in the family plot in Jefferson and a service will be held around her birthday in the Spring. Any contributions in Joyce's name may go to the Kidney Research of choice or The Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Victorville, California 92394.
