Betty Larue Curry (nee Crawford) died May 18, 2014. She was born 90 years ago on April 22, 1924, to James and Blanche Crawford.

Mrs. Curry is survived by her husband of 71 years, George Maxwell Curry; her brother, William Crawford (Althea); sister, Edna Groves; son, Dennis Curry (Susan); and daughters, Marilyn Olzmann and Betty Holmstrom (Harold).

She will be missed by her six grandchildren, Ann Baker (Edward), Michael Byers (Kathy), Jaime Madachik (John), Kelly McGreal, Mariah Curry, and Lesley Strom (Paul). Mrs. Curry also leaves nine great-grandchildren, Erin and Paige Baker, Chloe and Lily McGreal, Kaley and Evan Strom, Abigale and James Byers, and Tessa Madachik.

Born and raised near Falls Creek, Penn., Mrs. Curry graduated from Beechwoods High School and later from Dubois Business College. After her youngest daughter turned 6, Mrs. Curry attended Edinboro State Teachers College and earned a bachelor's degree in education. She taught fourth grade students in Fairview, Penn. for many years before earning her library science certification and becoming a school librarian.

In retirement, Mrs. Curry and her husband travelled extensively in the United States and Canada, visited Mexico and Australia and toured Europe. They also built a home in Treasure Lake, Penn., which became a destination for fun family gatherings. Years later, they moved to Sebring, Fla. and Edinboro, Penn. before ultimately settling at Laurel Lake in Hudson.

Mrs. Curry was renowned for her sewing, smocking and knitting skills, and she delighted in making new clothing for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, reading and taking walks. Mrs. Curry will be remembered by her children as a loving, dependable and generous mother. She will be remembered by her grandchildren as a warm and gentle grandmother, especially when they wrap themselves in the hand-knit afghans she made for each of them. Best of all, to her loving husband, she will always be remembered as his cute little redhead from Beechwoods.

A memorial service was May 31 at the Serenity Chapel at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson, Ohio. An interment service will be at 11 a.m. on June 6 at the Beechwoods Cemetery Chapel in Falls Creek, Penn.
