Susan "Sue" Higgins DeFago Ph.D died April 29, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic.

A Hudson resident, Dr. DeFago died after a battle with cancer and heart complications, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in 1948 to Dr. Albert and Virginia Hammond in Baltimore, Md.

As a testament to her lifelong passion for learning and teaching, she served as a professor of marketing at John Carroll University.

She loved crossword puzzles, politics and the news. She cherished beach vacations with her family, and enjoyed cheering on the Tribe, Buckeyes and Browns on television and spending time with her husband on the lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Virginia Hammond; and mother-in-law Ann DeFago.

Mrs. DeFago is survived by her husband, Dennis; her brother, Ormond (Leslie); her children Michael (Anne), Chris (Megan), Julie (Greg), Amber, Michelle (Nick), Erica (Joe); and her grandchildren Sarah, Kate, Virginia, Julius, Felix, Lyla, Quentin, Miles, and Annie; and many nieces and friends.

A Celebration of Susan's life was earlier this month at the Anthony Funeral Home, McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel in Cuyahoga Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Mid-Atlantic Affiliate 174 East Bay Street, Suite 300 A-B Charleston, S.C. 29401.
