Longtime local farmer
A memorial service was scheduled for today (April 16) at 11 a.m. at the Mennonite Church for Richard Lester Miller, 91, of Aurora, who died April 10, 2014. He was born June 8, 1922 in Harrisburg to late Samuel and Mary Elizabeth (Goldsmith) Miller.
Mr. Miller took over the family dairy farm after his father passed away. He was married 67 years to Marion Mae Stutzman, and together they ran the family dairy farm in Aurora for more than 20 years, and then he worked as road supervisor for the city for 20 years.
At 91, he was still operating his own roadside stand, which became a community gathering place. He also worked for Crown Mold doing general maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and working with stain glass.
He attended Hope Community Church in Hudson and formerly attended Aurora Mennonite Church, and was a member of the Aurora Historical Society.
Survivors include his children, Lynn (Marcy) Miller of Streetsboro, Ron (Cheryl) Miller of Garrettsville, Judy Bray of Aurora and Mike (Cindy) Miller of Florida; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marion Mae Miller won June 14, 2013, sisters Florence Richards, Verna Schmucker, Alice Miller and Mildred Schmucker, and brothers Forest, Arthur, Paul and Leroy Miller.
Burial was in the Aurora Mennonite Church cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or missions at Hope Community Church. Condolences and memories may be shared at
