Accountant; lived in Aurora

A memorial service will take place in Boston at a later date for Jose L. Suarez, 83, who died Feb. 6 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., after a short illness.

A resident of Weddington, N.C., Mr. Suarez also lived in Aurora from 1972 to 2012, as well as Ross Township, Pa., Cumberland, R.I., and Boston.

Mr. Suarez was born April 29, 1929, in Boston. He was a graduate of Boston High School of Commerce and Bentley School of Accounting and Finance (now Bentley University). He had a 40-plus year career with Dun & Bradstreet, working for the company in Boston, Springfield, Mass., Providence, R.I., Pittsburgh, Pa., and Cleveland.

Mr. Suarez, who as a youth in Boston's West End was a member of the Elizabeth Peabody House and West End House, volunteered at the Boy's Club in Cumberland. He was active in sports, playing on basketball and softball teams and in bowling leagues.

After his retirement, Mr. Suarez kept busy taking classes at Kent State University. He was an active member of the senior centers in Aurora and Streetsboro, and Monroe, N.C., and an avid square dancer who participated in numerous groups in Ohio and North Carolina.

He was married for almost 50 years to the late Esther A. (Wilkins) of Medford, Mass. Son of the late Catherine (Naughton) and Jose Suarez, he was preceded in death by sister Mary Stern of New York City.

Survivors include his sister Rose LoPorto of Bedford, Mass.; daughter Anita Suarez, a 1974 graduate of Aurora High School, and her husband Paul Wilbur of Waltham, Mass.; son Jose Suarez, a 1976 graduate of Aurora High School; his wife Judith of Weddington; granddaughters Lisa Suarez of Charlotte, Christina Suarez of Tacoma, Wash., and Rosalie Wilbur of Waltham; and several nieces and nephews.
