Northfield resident

A Mass of Christian burial took place Nov. 8 for Northfield resident John Joseph Misciagna.

Mr. Misciagna, 88, formerly of Altoona, Pa., died Nov. 5, 2012.

Mr. Misciagna was born on Nov. 8, 1923 to Gennaro Misciagna of La Riccia, Italy and Guiseppine (Maitino) Misciagna of Carpinone, Italy.

He was an active member of St. Barnabas Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in France during World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy.

He graduated college from Shippensburg State College in Pennsylvania and was retired from General Motor's Terex Division in Hudson.

Mr. Misciagna played softball for the Silver League in Akron from 1995-06. He coached little league baseball in the Nordonia Hills Athletic Association. After retiring, he also enjoyed collecting and selling baseball cards and tools.

Mr. Misciagna was the husband of Lois Jean Misciagna (Chidsey) of Brunswick, and the father of Michael (Pam) of Northfield, John of Northfield, Mary (Karen) of Charlotte, N.C. and Susan of Columbus. He was the father-in-law of Janit Misciagna, deceased, the grandfather of Theresa, Tony, Stefanie and Timothy and great-grandfather of Bianca, Angelina, Colin and Katie.

Mr. Misciagna was the brother of Michael of Long Beach, Calif., Nicholas of St. Petersburg, Fla., Esther Dorazio and Mary Carnell of Altoona, Pa., Evelyn Urbanek of Coupon, Pa., and Dolores Johnston (Charles) of Dupont, Pa.

He was also the brother of the following deceased: Jerry, Chester, Rocco, Josephine Haselbarth and Edith Altiero, brothers-in-law Lawrence Dorazio, Donald Carnell Sr. and Clair Urbanek Sr. and sister-in-law Hazel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local hospice or St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 9451 Brandywine Rd., Northfield, 44067.

Internment was at All Saints Cemetery. Johnson-Romito Funeral Home handled arrangements.
