A 16-foot tall tower has been installed at the Streetsboro Walmart at 905 Singletary Drive, and it should help customers save time and money, according to a recent company news release.

The orange tower, the first at a Walmart in Portage County, "functions like a high-tech vending machine and can fulfill a customer’s online order in less than a minute," according to the company.

To use the Pickup Tower, customers choose from items available on Walmart.com and select the "pick up" option at checkout. When the item arrives at the local store, an associate loads it into the pickup tower, and the customer retrieves by scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone.

"Like never before, technology is enabling customers to order anything they want, no matter where they are and to get it whenever they want it," said Walmart Manager Brad Meinert. "Walmart recognizes how important time and value are to our customers, and we are proud to offer innovations like the Pickup Tower to meet their needs whether they are shopping in person or ordering through a smartphone app."

Walmart announced it plans to spend about $94 million in Ohio this year by remodeling stores and rolling out in-store and online innovations designed to save shoppers time and money.

Walmart plans to discount certain items shoppers plan to pick up at the store and offers free shipping on orders of $35 or more. Shoppers also can use the Walmart app for iPhones and Android phones to create shopping lists, search for items in local stores, check weekly ads and prices and save e-receipts.
