CLEVELAND — Heinen’s Grocery Stores and Dole Packaged Foods LLC are announcing the start of a promotion that enables elementary schools and accredited after-school childcare facilities in Northeast Ohio and Chicago, Ill., to win a Captain Planet Foundation Learning Garden for their school.
The contest begins Sept. 18 runs until Oct. 18. Heinen's locations include 115 N. Chillicothe Road, Aurora; 19 Clinton St., Hudson; and 10049 Darrow Road, Twinsburg.
Heinen’s shoppers can enter to win by going to http://blog.heinens.com/enter-to-win-the-project-learning-garden-contest/or captainplanetfoundation.org/contest/heinens/ and filling out the contest application. One lucky school or childcare facility in Cleveland and Chicago will win a comprehensive Learning Garden complete with a schoolyard garden, a fully-equipped garden cooking cart, lesson kits and strategies for summer garden maintenance.
Finalists will be notified in late October followed by the announcement of one Cleveland and one Chicago winner in early November of 2018. The gardens will be installed in the spring of 2019 and celebrated with an opening harvest event.
Captain Planet Foundation’s Project Learning Garden program provides a context for garden-based learning in subjects ranging from nutrition and science to social studies, math and language arts. Students benefit by exploring the tastes of new, healthy foods and learning the importance of knowing where food comes from.
"We are excited to partner with Dole on this contest," said Kathryn Falls, director of marketing at Heinen’s Grocery Stores. "Giving back to the neighborhoods we serve is incredibly important to us."
