SOLON — The Solon Police Department will conduct an impaired driving checkpoint on Route 91 in the business district on Friday.

The exact location will be released on Friday.

The checkpoint is designed to detect impaired drivers before they can hurt themselves or someone else and to educate the public about the dangers of drunk driving.

"We want the public to know that we will be out there for the benefit of the motoring public and pedestrians, working to make our roadways safe," said Patrolman Roy Cunningham.

The Solon Police Department says it wants to remind people to make smart choices if they are going to be drinking by designating a driver, calling a cab, staying at home or at a hotel, or calling a friend or family member.
