An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper has been arrested for allegedly videotaping underage children “in a state of nudity,” according to the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Tyler Anderson, 44, was arrested Friday as the result of an investigation involving the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, according to a news release from the office of Ashland County Prosecutor Christopher Tunnell.

Tunnell said in the release that an investigation is still ongoing and will be sent to his office so he will be able to decide formal charges, which could come next week.

Anderson was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance.

Anderson allegedly recorded an “under-aged person in a state of nudity,” according to the news release.

“Investigators are still in the process of gathering information and evidence and seeking out additional witnesses,” Tunnell said in the release. “This is a very unfortunate situation that happens to involve a local law enforcement officer. There has been no evidence found at this time to indicate any allegations that Anderson used his position to facilitate the alleged offense or that he was on duty at the time of the alleged offense.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said through a news release that the patrol “has already initiated termination proceedings” against Anderson, who works out of the Ashland post. Anderson has been with Highway Patrol for nearly 20 years.

“The conduct of Mr. Anderson does not reflect the values of our agency,” the release read.

Tunnell said in his own release that he hoped the investigation “does not erode the public trust in our local law enforcement community. Our Ashland County law enforcement officers are outstanding and dedicated public servants.”

Anderson is currently in the Ashland County Jail.

He was scheduled to represent the State Highway Patrol on a panel at a safety services luncheon Wednesday, sponsored by the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce.
