Area piano students recently performed in their annual recital at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Boston Heights.

The recital was a reflection of individual study and effort by the students, with the support of their families.

Musical compositions featured composers from the classical period, including Beethoven, Grieg, Pachelbel, Khachaturian and Chopin, to the contemporary period, such as Joe Garland, "Fats" Waller and Woody Guthrie.

One performer, Megan Conklin, played "Nocturne in E-flat Major" Op. 9 No. 2 by Chopin, which she also played for the Ohio Music Education Association, where she had recently been awarded a rating of 1, being the best of 5, for a "truly outstanding performance."

Another student, Reese Miele, was recognized for being in "The Piano Explorer" magazine for practicing 100 consecutive days.

Upon conclusion of the recital, the students were presented awards for their individual achievement by Shirley Rosa, their piano teacher.
