There are two Soap Box Derby Racers from Aurora, Logan Jancsurak and Christina Vidmar. They will race this weekend at Buchert park, in Mantua. The race is on Saturday June 16, starting at 9:30 a.m., and finishing approximately 5 p.m.

There are three race classes; Stock, Super Stock, and Masters. Only the first-place racers from each race division will race at the All American Derby Downs in July.

Logan has been racing for 6 years, starting out in the super stock division, and moved into the Masters division. He will be a junior at Aurora High School this year.

Christina is an Aurora graduate, and has never raced in the Soap Box Derby. She had to take her Masters car completely apart and rebuild it. She is very excited to race at the Portage County Local Derby Race.

The racers lay down in their racecars, their helmets fit into the car (they become part of the car), then the hatch is closed, and no part of the racer is seen in the enclosed car. They look through a slot of 3/8ths of an inch. They will reach speeds over thirty mph, which may not seem fast, until there is a mistake. Racers start at age 7 to 21. The race is free to watch, with 40 cars racing.
