STOW — Soccer fans going to the Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools home games will soon see new lights installed at the soccer field.
The school board has unanimously approved a contract with Musco Lighting, based in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to install LED lighting to the high school soccer field for up to $195,000. The district would pay $50,000 over five years. The Althletic Boosters would also pay $50,000, the Stow Goal Club would chip in $89,000 and the Haley Hopkins Foundation would pay $6,000. The project is estimated to cost $181,295, and payments would be made over five years.
The contract had been discussed at an earlier school board meeting, but several school board members had raised concerns about how there was nothing in the contract that would have held the other entities paying responsible should they for some reason would back out; the current contract includes language that will consider such an action a breach of contract.
"It was about making sure to hold all groups responsible for their portion of the money pledged so that no one got stuck with something they shouldn't," said Superintendent Tom Bratten.
Bratten said the lighting installation would start sometime this summer.
