TWINSBURG — The school district’s PTAs and booster clubs could see more money in their budgets next year, thanks to the Board of Education’s decision to waive facility fees in certain cases.

The Board passed 4-0 a change to the district’s rental fee schedule that would allow several school groups to use the school facilities for free Monday through Saturday.

"These are the organizations that do great things for our kids," said Superintendent Kathryn Powers. "The vocal music boosters, our PTAs, the orchestra boosters, athletic boosters."

To take advantage of the fee waiver, the organizations must provide documentation to Treasurer Martin Aho about the organization, Powers said. Once that is done, the Board will approve the financial waiver for each group, and in each case, Powers added.

If a group were to hold an event on a Sunday, they would still be charged, Powers said. She said the policy is "quite rare."

"It is very expensive to bring in labor because of negotiated contracts," Powers said.

Board Vice President Rob Felber said what the district is asking the organizations to do in terms of paperwork "is nothing new."

"We're not asking them to do anything other than what they've always done," Felber said.
