The Friends of Melana Foundation is hosting the eighth annual 5k and 1 mile fun run/walk on Sunday morning of the Garrettsville Summerfest, June 24. The race starts at 9 a.m. in downtown Garrettsville. All proceeds from this event go toward research for children’s brain cancer, the No. 1 cause of cancer deaths in young people. The race is in memory of Melana Matson who lost her battle with the disease at the age of 9.
Register online at www.gopherarun.com or during Summerfest weekend at the Friends of Melana booth on the bridge. Race day registration opens at 7:30 a.m. under the tent at St. Ambrose Church.
