COLUMBUS — State Rep. Jack Cera (D-Bellaire) announced an opportunity for local places of worship to apply for The National Fund for Sacred Places, which provides grant money for rehabilitation of historic religious facilities. Partners for Sacred Places, will join efforts with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help select approximately 50 historic places of worship to receive a total of $10 million over a four-year period.

"The 96th House District has an abundance of beautiful, historic places of worship that would be ideal choices to receive funding through The National Fund for Sacred Places," said Cera. "It's my hope that some of our local congregations occupying historical buildings will take advantage of this unique opportunity."

In addition to financial assistance, recipients of The National Fund for Sacred Places receive training and planning grants to help the congregation execute their restoration. The Fund prioritizes historical buildings that have an urgent need for repair that exceeds tthe capacity of normal fundraising. They also value buildings which have historical significance and are filled by an active and energetic congregation that is ready to take advantage of their renovated space.

The letters of intent to participate are due by April 15. Interested parties can visit https://www.fundforsacredplaces.org/ for more information.
