TWINSBURG — Country music fans will have a chance to help the family of a fallen firefighter tonight (April 13).

The band Post Road will perform for several hours, starting at 9 p.m. at Panini’s Bar and Grill, 8870 Darrow Road in Twinsburg, in a benefit for the family of 44-year-old Stow Firefighter Dan Whipkey. Whipkey died unexpectedly at his Cleveland home last Sunday, the day after his 10th anniversary with the department. A determination of the cause of death was pending as of Thursday.

Stow Fire Lt. Shawn Roland, the band’s lead singer and guitarist, worked with Whipkey.

"He got hired a couple of months before I did," said Roland.

Roland said there will be a "fill the boot" collection while Post Road performs, with firefighter boots available for patrons to drop money into.

"Dan was a great guy and he was dealt a bad hand," said Roland. "He always gave back to the community and we want to give back to his family. We’re going to do whatever we can to help them out and I think this is a pretty decent start."

For those who cannot attend, but who want to help, the Dan Whipkey Memorial Fund has been set up. Go to any Huntington Bank branch to donate.
