MACEDONIA — The Cleveland Clinic and Mayor Joseph Migliorini have confirmed that an Express Care facility is in the planning stages for Macedonia Commons.

"At this time we’re still developing plans for our Express Care clinic in Macedonia," said Heather Phillips of the Clinic’s corporate communications department.

"We’re looking forward to bringing Express Care services to Macedonia and surrounding communities to enhance the convenience of getting care."

Phillips did not give an indication when the local facility might open. Migliorini said he understands the facility would be in the former Bodyworks location along Route 82 in the front of Macedonia Commons next to Hobby Lobby.

"We’ve always wanted some type of an urgent care facility like this in town," said Migliorini. "I think it will be an amenity which will serve our residents well."

The Clinic has about two dozen Express Care locations in Northeast Ohio where patients can get walk-in medical attention. The locations are open seven days a week.

"The Express Care is a walk-in type of clinic for people 14 years and older," Phillips told the News Leader when a similar facility opened in December 2015 in Sagamore HIlls.

According to the Clinic’s website, some of the conditions treated at the facilities are cold and flu symptoms; conjunctivitis; ear, throat, sinus, urinary and upper respiratory tract infections; minor bumps and cuts, seasonal allergies, skin rashes and simple sprains and strains.

The Express Care centers, which are similar to facilities which other medical providers refer to as urgent care sites, feature board-certified nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who are trained to diagnose and treat common medical conditions.

In addition to the Sagamore Hills location, other nearby Express Care locations are in Solon, Hudson, Stow, Broadview Heights and Bath Township. The Stow facility opened in January.

University Hospitals also has major health and urgent care centers nearby, such as Twinsburg Urgent Care and Bedford Medical Center, while the 43,000-square-foot Akron Children’s Health Center in Boston Heights is scheduled to begin construction this summer.

Twinsburg Urgent Care on Commerce Boulevard offers similar services as Express Care locations, while the Bedford Medical Center on Blaine Avenue is a 110-bed full service acute care community hospital.

The Boston Heights facility would include pediatric and urgent care centers, primary and specialty care offices and a rehabilitation facility.

Macedonia Commons, which opened in 1994, is now owned by Osborne Capital Group after being acquired a few months ago from Developer’s Diversified.

Lance Osborne is president of the Osborne Capital Group, which also developed the Marketplace Plaza at Routes 82 and 8.

In other economic news, Macedonia’s planning commission recently OK’d a final site plan for the new Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at Route 8 and Highland Road and a preliminary site plan for Dunkin Donuts on Route 82 at the western end of the Crossings at Golden Link.

Migliorini reported a Culver’s fast food franchise, only the second of two in Ohio so far, is scheduled to locate next to Great Escape in the Crossings, and a Northeast Factory Direct outlet is coming to an industrial building on Freeway Drive.

Culver’s features ButterBurgers, other sandwiches, dinners and frozen custard. The chain has more than 500 locations in 22 states, and is building its first Ohio restaurant in Avon.

Northeast Factory Direct has other sales and warehouse locations in the Cleveland area and sells furniture, mattresses, hot tubs, patio furnishings and kitchen cabinets.

"The economic news is pretty good right now in Macedonia," said Migliorini. "We’ve getting things filled up."
