To submit items for the Calendar, email them to nctnews@newcomerstown-news.com at least two weeks before the event.

Chilly Chili event

The Newcomerstown Public Library is planning a "Chilly Chili Run/Walk" for Saturday, March 17, at 11:30 a.m. Those signing up will run or walk a one-mile laid-out course. The entry fee is $5 for single entries or $10 for a family (no size limit). Those taking part can enjoy a free chili lunch at the end of the course. Participants can sign up at the Newcomerstown Public Library and funds raised will go to Journey's End.

Other upcoming events at the Library include an Egg Hunt on Friday, March 30, at 11 a.m. with prizes, candies and "other sweet finds" for children ages 1-12; and a Cake Baking Contest on Thursday, April 26, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Register by Saturday, April 14. Does your cake have what it takes to wow your Library's judges? Flavor and presentation are considered.

Easter Egg Hunt

Newcomerstown Elks Lodge 1555 and the Nazarene Church will sponsor the Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 24, at the Newcomerstown Cy Young Park beginning at 10 a.m. Age groups are 0-2 (with or without help), 3-4, 5-7, 8-10. There will be eggs filled with candy and money as well as "special" eggs.

Candy sale

The annual Easter cookie and candy sale at Christ United Methodist Church will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 24. Those attending can pick and choose for $6.50 per pound. The event is in the River of Life Community Center, 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown. Funds will benefit the River Ringers and the Cuba Mission Team.

I-77 road work

Work is expected to begin March 12 on crossover construction in preparation for this summer’s bridge construction on Interstate 77 just south of the New Philadelphia Interchange. The I-77 bridge decks will be replaced over Steele Hill Road. Starting Monday, March 12, daily lane closures of the passing lanes are expected while ODOT’s contractor, JD Williamson Construction Co. Inc. from Tallmadge, Ohio, constructs the work zone for the crossover of traffic. The completion date for this $3.1 million project is Oct. 31, 2018. Cemetery Assn.

The annual meeting of the Stone Creek Cemetery Association will be Tuesday, March 13, at the Town Hall at 7 p.m. All members of Grace Community Church, Zion Lutheran Church, and lot owners are welcome to attend.

Breakfast, Silent Auction

The Cy Young Festival will have a breakfast and silent auction at the David Barber Civic Center on Saturday, March 24, from 8-11 a.m. All you can eat Sausage and Pancakes $4 per person. Come eat and bid on the silent auction items!

Quarter auction

The women of St. Francis De Sales Church will be having a Quarter Auction on Sunday, March 18, from 1-3 p.m. in the church hall. Doors will open at noon. There will also be a bake sale and lunch stand. Proceeds are used to fund their projects within the church and community. All are welcome!

Board meeting

The Indian Valley Board of Education will meet at the board office instead of the high school at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19.

Class of 1960

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1960 will have a meeting at noon on Wednesday, March 14, at April’s Country Kitch’n.

Class of 1957

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1957 will meet at noon on Tuesday, April 3, at Roberta’s in Warsaw.

Spaghetti

A homemade spaghetti dinner will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at Calvary United Methodist Church at the corner of State State and Heller Drive. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under and free for pre-schoolers and also includes salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Carry-outs and local delivery are available. Music Jam

The Chestnut Hill Bluegrass Band will host a Bluegrass Gospel and Country Music Jam on Sunday, March 18 from 2-5 p.m. The Jam is sponsored by Everals Chapel Preservation Society and is open to all. Food will be available. The event is free and will be at the Historic Chapel, 60417 Everals Church Rd., Newcomerstown. Donations are accepted and will provide for repairs and maintenance of the 1860's era church. Bring instruments and join the fun. For more information, call 740-498-5636.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 121 S. College St., Newcomerstown, from 1-6 p.m. on March 14. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS.

Board of Revision

The Tuscarawas County Board of Revision will meet Tuesday, March 20, at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Auditor’s Conference Room, 125 East High Ave., New Philadelphia to organize for the upcoming Board of Revision hearings along with reviewing received complaints. Written comments are welcome from those who will not be able to attend.

Carnation sale

The Newcomerstown Lions Club annual Carnation Sale is under way. The carnations are $15 per dozen or $23 per dozen for mail orders. The order deadline is Wednesday, March 14, and the carnations will be delivered Saturday, March 24. To order, call 740-498-5406.

Batting

practice

Cy Young Youth Baseball League will host a boys indoor batting practice with Newcomerstown High School Coach Robb Hendershot every Sunday. Pony League and Little League will practice from 2-3 p.m. and Minor League and Coach Pitch will practice from 3-4 p.m. The practices will be at the W.M. Brode Building on Heller Drive.

Heavenly Dogs

St. James Lutheran Church Men will host their fifth annual "Heavenly Hot Dogs and More" at the church, 215 Church St., Tuscarawas, each Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the end of March. The event is a warm meal of a sandwich, soup, dessert and beverage. Carry-out is available. Free-will donations are accepted to cover the cost of the meal and any extra proceeds will go toward projects by the men’s group.
