TWINSBURG — Police responding to reports of possible gunfire Tuesday night didn’t find the source of the disturbance, but arrested a 35-year-old Reminderville man for alleged drunk driving.
Assistant Police Chief Robert J. Gonsiewski said the department received at least three reports of what sounded like gunshots or fireworks a little after 10 p.m. and dispatched police into the northeast side of town to investigate.
He said an off-duty police officer happened to be in the area and spotted the Reminderville man stopped on Anthony Lane off Cannon Road. When the officer stopped and attempted to speak with the man to see if he knew anything about the reported gunshots, the man quickly drove off, Gonsiewski said. The off-duty officer called Twinsburg police, who stopped the man on Liberty Road.
Gonsiewski said the man apparently did not have anything to do with the reported gunfire, but was allegedly intoxicated and was charged with OVI, blood alcohol content, no lights and an open container violation.
Police never did determine the cause of the reports, but Gonsiewski noted the general area is close to Twinsburg Township properties, where gunfire on private property is allowed.
