The Tallmadge wrestling team originally was set to host a tri-meet Saturday to close out its regular season.

However, due to weather issues earlier in the season, Blue Devils head coach Jason Shaw was able to get his team to participate in a dual-meet tournament.

At the six-team Tallmadge Duals, the Blue Devils finished 3-2 at James O. Maddox Court. Tallmadge defeated Bedford 30-18, Dover 39-24 and Akron Manchester 36-27, while losing to Rootstown 57-18 and Stow-Munroe Falls 54-16.

Rootstown, a Division III state power, won the duals with a record fo 5-0.

Tallmadge’s top performer was sophomore Jesse Kanatzar, who went 4-0 at 160 pounds. Kanatzar pinned Bedford’s Chris Bridges in 3:41, got a pin in 1:22 against Dover, pinned Rootstown’s Austin McKibben in 2:38 and won by forfeit against. Stow.

At 170 pounds, Richie Eyre finished 3-2 at the duals, as did Logan Rickenbacker (145).

Tallmadge is scheduled to open its postseason run Feb. 24 at the Division II sectional tournament at Canal Fulton Northwest. First match is set for 10 a.m. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to a Division II district meet at Alliance March 2 and 3.
