A boil alert has been issued for residences on East Pioneer Trail until 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The addresses affected, according to the city, are 40 to 276 East Pioneer Trail (south side) and 129 East Pioneer Trail to 190 New Hudson Road (north side).
A water main broke on East Pioneer Trail on Saturday morning. Chief of staff Karen Aldredge said the pipe was old and "one of the original water lines that need to be fixed." Water had to be shut off on East Pioneer Trail, triggering the boil alert.
East Pioneer Trail was closed between Willard and New Hudson roads on Saturday as repairs were being made and traffic was rerouted to Ben Shaw Road. The fire department was made aware of the boil alert and the police department has posted the alert on its Facebook page.
Aldredge said some 15 residences on the road are effected. She and Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin walked door-to-door advising residents of the boil alert.
The break has been fixed, and the boil alert is precautionary while the city conducts water tests.
