Brennen and Destynn Keuchel of Hawken School were among 260 students who participated in the 2017 State of Ohio Grade Level Chess Championships in Newark Nov. 18. Students from across Ohio competed for the championship titles in 13 sections of K-12. It was an intense day of playing five games of chess.  With four wins and a draw, Destynn captured the eighth-grade state title, while his eighth grade team with Austin Daly, Christian French, Greta Rodgers and Ishan Vyas won the state team championship for eighth-grade. Brennen, with three wins and two draws, became state runner-up in 11th grade. Brennen and Destynn will travel to Florida to participate in the National Grade Level Chess Championships on Dec. 8 through 10.
