Operating a vehicle under the influence

Man passed out in drive-through:A 59-year-old Sagamore Hills man was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and open container after an employee of a state Route 82 restaurant reported the man had passed out in his vehicle in the restaurant’s drive-thru in the early evening Nov. 3.

The employee said the man sounded intoxicated while he was ordering food and police said that when they arrived, they saw other customers driving around the man’s vehicle after picking up their food.

Police said field sobriety tests indicated the man was intoxicated and he was taken to Macedonia City Jail.

Theft

Clothing reported stolen: A 56-year-old Bedford Heights woman was charged with misdemeanor theft after a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store employee reported the woman left the store without paying for clothing totaling about $165 in value. The charge was filed in Macedonia Mayor’s Court.

Phone stolen from store: An employee of a state Route 82 store reported that an unidentified man left the store without paying for an approximately $850 cellphone Nov. 2. The employee said the man was looking some phones while the employee was helping some customers when he heard an alarm go off and saw the man run out of the store, get into a vehicle and drive away.

Man offers to pay for merchandise: A Maple Heights man, 27, was charged with misdemeanor theft after a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store employee reported the man left the store without paying for a hat and socks totaling nearly $40 in value Oct. 31. Police said they found the man walking in the store’s parking lot and they stopped him. The man put the hat and a pair of socks on the hood of a police car and offered to pay for them, but police said they arrested him and found more socks stuffed into his pants. The man was taken to Macedonia City Jail.

Woman arrested during traffic stop: A Twinsburg woman, 19, was charged with misdemeanor charges of theft, driving under suspension, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession and not wearing a seatbelt after a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store employee reported the woman left the store without paying for boys athletic clothing totaling $80 in value Oct. 30. Police said they saw the woman driving away from the store, but they stopped her in a nearby state Route 82 parking lot. Police said they recovered the clothing and found a small amount of suspected marijuana and rolling papers in the woman’s vehicle. She was taken to Macedonia City Jail.

On Nov. 5, police said, they again charged her with driving under suspension, as well as littering, when they saw her in the driver’s seat of a vehicle outside a state Route 82 business. Police said a passenger in the vehicle, a Cleveland man, confirmed the woman had been driving. When the woman got out of the vehicle, she threw some paper on the ground, police said.

Drug-related offenses

Man stopped for speeding: A Millstream Run man, 41, was charged with drug paraphernalia possession, driving under suspension and speeding after police said they clocked his vehicle at 84 mph in a 65 mph zone and stopped it on Interstate 271 at Route 8 at about 2:55 a.m. Nov. 5. Police said they found a marijuana grinder in the vehicle. The man was taken to Macedonia City Jail.

Man charged with felony: A 28-year-old Ravenna man was charged with fifth-degree felony drug possession and fourth-degree misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession following a Nov. 3 traffic stop.

Police said they performed a random computer check of the man’s license plate number and determined he was wanted by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office for failing to pay a fine on a speeding ticket and stopped his vehicle on Interstate 480 eastbound at about 6:40 p.m. Nov. 3. Police said they found suspected meth and a straw with a white residue on it in the man’s vehicle. The man was taken to Macedonia City Jail.

Man stopped for equipment violation: A Cleveland man, 29, was charged with marijuana possession, driving under suspension, display of license plates and rear plate illumination after police said they saw the man’s rear license plate was not properly illuminated and stopped him on Route 8 southbound at about 12:15 a.m. Nov. 2. Police said they found a small amount of a substance in the vehicle that tested positive as marijuana. He was released at the scene.

Suspected marijuana seen on man’s pants: A Cleveland man, 29, was cited with minor misdemeanor marijuana possession after a vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped on Interstate 271 northbound at about 1:10 a.m. Oct. 31.

Police said they stopped the vehicle after a random computer check determined that the 27-year-old Cleveland woman driving it had a suspended driver’s license.

Police said that when they asked the man about what looked like marijuana on his pants, he turned over a small amount of suspected marijuana in a container.

The woman was taken to Macedonia City Jail and the man was released.

Arrest warrant

Woman a passenger in vehicle: A Cleveland woman was cited with open container and turned over to Lyndhurst police on an arrest warrant after police stopped a vehicle she was a passenger in for a traffic violation in the parking lot of a Highland Road hotel at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 4.

Police said they saw the vehicle drive across Highland Road from a service station on the other side to a drive leading to the hotel, leaving from an exit at the service station that was right turn only. The driver, an Akron woman, was warned, but not cited for the violation.
